Dear families,

There are a number of things this week to which I want to draw your attention and for which I hope to bring some clarity.

  • FUNdraisers – Through your incredible generosity, we have been able to fund many incredible field trips, curricular programs including strings and band, and staffing to help us meet the needs of many students. Our financial goal for this fundraiser is to surpass the $13,000.00 we made last year!  Our FUNdraisers are designed to help bring the community together in a variety of ways – allowing parents to share and purchase fun opportunities for authentic collaboration.  If you have any questions check out the link on our webpage below or please contact Katie Scott or Elizabeth Christensen
  • Progressive Parent Education – Last week, we had our first parent session on Educational Equity.  The participants were an engaged and lively group who engaged in personal reflection and collaboration around issues pertaining to race and equity in Minneapolis.  Thanks to all that attended.  This Thursday, progressive educator, Alfie Kohn, will be speaking at Macalester College at 4:45 PM in a free lecture.  We hope you will be able to attend.
  • Mid-year Conferences – Even though the district conference day of February 14 was designated last week as a student attendance day, Barton remains committed to working with families. Our goal is to complete conferences by the end of the first week of March. This means teachers will be need to be flexible in scheduling times before and after school, and possibly during teacher preparation time during the school day. As your student's teacher communicates his/her schedule, we ask that you be flexible, as well, in finding a time to meet.

Please keep in mind that our teachers start the day by 7:00 am, and a series of evening conferences lasting until 7:00 pm, means a 12 hour day, with another 7:00 am start the next day. We will appreciate you doing your part to work with teacher to ensure that appointments are kept and that you do your best to arrive and leave on time.  Thank you!
