Dear families,

Next year we will kick off the year with a new tradition – Get Connected Day.  On August 13th, parents will come to Barton to “get connected” with each other and get some of the big things off their checklist  to start the year.  Rather than send out placement letters at the end of July, as we typically have, we will be handing out placement information, schedules, and have other opportunities to “get connected” in the Commons and the gym from 12:00- 6:00 pm.

• Tables will be set up in the gym with parent volunteers.  Parents will be able to pick up class placement letters, indicating what room students have been assigned and, for uppers, your schedule for the upcoming school year.
• Lifetouch will be in the Commons for picture day.  Students can come and get their pictures taken at any point between 12:00 – 6:00 that day.
• Patsy will be in the kitchen to take lunch money and give updates on lunch accounts.
• You will be able to purchase yearbooks online or in person, in the gym.
• All health forms, media release forms, and directory information forms will be available online all summer on our website.  You will be able to bring these forms in
• There will be a New Family Welcome meeting from 5:00 – 6:00 in the media center.  This will be a time for all families that are new to Barton to learn a bit about open education and meet some key parent and staff contacts from the building.

We are excited about this opportunity to help our community get connected a couple of weeks before the school year begins.  If you already have plans as a family or end up unable to make it for whatever reason we will have picture makeup days once school begins and placement letters will be sent out shortly after Get Connected Day.  This event will not replace any of our other great traditions, just enhance them.  We will still have our Meet the Teacher hour and Family Picnic at Beard's Plaisance on Thursday, August 21st.  This promises to be another community building event that will compliment the other things we do to bring our families, students, and staff together.
