Thursday, February 21, 7-8:30 PM
Washburn High School Auditorium

So, you might no longer be the most influential force in your teenager’s life. Guess what: Your child still needs you and (secretly) wants your help and guidance. Dating, sex and sexting are just a few of the difficult topics parents have to be prepared to talk about with their teenagers. Teens need special help in deciding how to set good boundaries and make choices based on positive values. Come and explore the best ways to deal with these issues. Questions, specific scenarios and discussion will help develop these learning points.

The evening is presented by the Washburn Parent Mental Health Committee, and will include:

  • Washburn Black Box Theater student performances on love and relationships to kick off the event.
  • A presentation on Healthy Sexuality from Amy Moeller, LICSW and Libby Bergman, LICSW co-founders of The Family Enhancement Center in south Minneapolis.
  • A conversation between parents, students and the speakers as to how to incorporate the evening’s lessons at home.

Amy Moeller is a therapist who has worked with children and adolescents for 25 years. She works in the Adolescent Health Department at Children’s Hospital and treats teenagers experiencing depression, anxiety, social struggles and chemical dependency.

Libby Bergman has worked with youth and families for over 25 years and is an expert on the subject of child abuse and neglect. And, just announced: Libby is the recipient of the 2011 Children’s Law Center of Minnesota’s Heroes for Children Award!
