Minneapolis Public Schools

Dear MPS families,

As you may have heard, all Minneapolis Public Schools are beginning the school year with distance learning. Protecting the health and safety of our students, families and staff is our top priority. We will transition to in-person learning once the rates of COVID-19 decline significantly in Minneapolis and surrounding communities.
To help you prepare for the start of the school year, we have some essential information for you to review. All this information is provided in this Back to School Guide as well as on our website. We will continue to share information with you on what you can expect for the new school year as it becomes available.

Now more than ever, it’s critical that families make sure your school has your most recent contact information. Before school starts, please make sure and call your school if there are any changes to your child’s home address or your phone number or email.

All MPS schools use SchoolMessenger to share important information about weather closures, building safety, school events, transportation and more. Make sure you receive text messages by texting “Y” to 67587. Families can manage their contact preferences by creating a SchoolMessenger account. To learn more visit: mpls.k12.mn.us/school_messenger.

Minneapolis Public Schools is offering free food to all youth (18 and under) this summer through Friday, August 21. All families are invited to participate in this program.

Families can pick up food boxes at 50 schools and parks across Minneapolis, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For the safety of families and staff, all sites offer contact-free pick-up.

Food boxes are filled with items to make seven breakfasts and seven lunches, including fresh fruits and vegetables. Supplemental groceries from The Sheridan Story are also available for families to pick up with their MPS food boxes.

Food boxes are free for all children, 18 and under. Children do not need to be enrolled in MPS to receive food. Youth, parents, or siblings can pick up one food box for each child in their family, per week.
