Last Newsletter of the Year

Dear Families,

Last Friday my heart was full as I enjoyed the Sky Show- so much work!  So many proud kids!  So many happy faces!  So many great ideas!  So many wonderful choices!  It seemed that the Sky Show was a microcosm of what our beloved Barton is all about.

After school I had a quieter moment, putting work into portfolios, and I was feeling the same feeling.  So much work.  So much love.  So much growth.  I was especially drawn to the “Sky Show” comment books.  I was truly touched reading the thoughtful, specific feedback that all of the visiting adults wrote to our young scholars.  No wonder we have such a compassionate, curious class.  They take after all of you!  From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank all of you for the support, love and care you show to all of our children.

This Week

Monday we will reflect on our hopes and dreams for the year.

Tuesday is our big day- portfolio sharing and Lake Day!  Portfolio Sharing is 7:30-8:30, and we leave for Lake Day at 9:30.  Please have your child wear his or her CAMP SHIRT on Lake Day, and send a home lunch if you can.  No money- kids aren’t allowed to go to the concessions at Lake Day until 7th grade.

Wednesday and Thursday we will work on our longitudinal portfolios- the ones that follow students all the way to eighth grade.

Friday we will have our last day pancake breakfast with Dawn’s class.  The first graders will cook for the second graders first, and then the second graders will cook for the first graders.  It’s our right of passage.

We will spend the day doing our favorite things one more time- playing games, singing songs, signing yearbooks, and packing up and cleaning lockers.

At the end of the day, when we walk out the door we will “promote” everyone to their new grade.  Your child will have a “last day envelope” with a letter from me and  some summer suggestions.

We need:

*paper plates, napkins and juice for Friday (50 kids).

*to borrow a pancake griddle.

*fruit or veggies for snack for Wednesday and Thursday- let me know if you can send something.

*Backpacks every day.  We’ll be cleaning lockers and bins.  I’m giving books away.

Thanks for everything,   Kristin
