The News From Room 209
March 18, 2013

The Great Amaryllis Race
Most of those beautiful blossoms are beginning to wilt, though a few continue to bloom - the work continues, as well. Each student has the responsibility to teach the rest of the class about one part of the plant.

We are planning a sharing event, a Garden Party, for the morning of Wednesday, March 27. Please come sometime between 7:30am and 9:00am to see your child’s work. This has been an integrated unit of study, so you will see math, science, and art work. Come when you can, stay as long as you can.

It would be nice to have a small morning snack while families are here. If you can donate fruit, juice, donut holes, or coffee, please let me know. Thanks.

Junior Achievement
Today was Junior Achievement day in 209. Lori from Thrivent spent the day with us teaching about economics! We are ready to start building our own businesses. The lessons and activities focused on these key concepts: entrepreneurship, capital resources, natural resources, human resources, profit, and loss. It was a great learning experience.

We are back in gym tomorrow (Wednesday). Gym shoes required.

Roller Skating
The 3/4 team is going Roller Skating on Thursday, March 28. We will go in the morning and eat lunch there. The cost for skating is $7.50, The permission slip will be in tomorrow’s homework folder. Students can bring a lunch from home, or money to buy pizza. I will check on the cost and set a limit on the amount of money each student can bring. More to come later.

Plant Sale
The plant sale is off and running. The goal for each 3/4 classroom is $4000! Whew. That is a lot of hard work. Plant orders can be returned to school individually or when you are done selling. Thanks for your efforts!

On the Calendar …
