New Barton Principal Announced
Tuesday, June 5, 2012 8:10 AM

Dear Families of Barton Open School:

As you may know, Dr. Steven DeLapp is retiring from his position as principal of Barton. We thank Dr. DeLapp for his successful years of dedication and service to the Barton school community and the Minneapolis Public Schools. He will truly be missed.

Given his retirement, we are pleased to announce that we have asked Dr. Patrick Duffy to lead the administration at Barton as principal.

Dr. Duffy comes to MPS from Edina Public Schools, where he served as assistant principal at South View Middle School for four years. During that time, he also worked as a diversity consultant for the Carlson School of Management and Bethel University. He was previously employed in Hopkins Public Schools for 10 years as a junior high and high school teacher and an equity coordinator.

Dr. Duffy received his administrative license with coursework at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, where he also completed a Doctor of Education degree in educational policy and administration, a Master of Education degree, a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a minor in Spanish and a certificate in staff development. He also completed certificates of advanced study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York and Fundacion Ortega y Gasset in Toledo, Spain.

Of his new position, Dr. Duffy says, “I am excited and honored to be offered the position of principal of Clara Barton Open School. I look forward to serving the staff, families and community to the best of my ability.”

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Duffy to Barton.

Theresa Battle
Associate Superintendent
