News -- April 11, 2012
Wednesday, April 11, 2012 2:55 PM

Dear Families,
I apologize for this lengthy email but PLEASE take time to read the whole thing. There is a great deal of information which may be helpful.

First of all, the MN Comprehensive Assessments begin next week. We have the reading test for 3rd and 4th grade on Tuesday 4/17 and Wednesday 4/18morning from 7:45 to 10:05. We have the MCA math test the following week on Monday 4/23 and Tuesday 4/24 at 11:15-1:15. Students can sometimes feel stressed and overwhelmed by these tests. I want our class to be as prepared and confident as possible. We had a class discussion and made some decisions. We will take stretch and snack breaks during each test. I am also including links to the MN Dept of Ed website.

These links will allow you and/or your child to read through practice questions for both the math and the reading tests. The sample items are available both as a pdf and as an online practice similar to the actual tests.

For the online math practice you will need to select a grade from the drop down menu and hit sign in. (You must use Firefox as your browser)
For the pdf math practice:

For the pdf reading practice:

In addition to all the practice, I would like to see ALL the students be physically prepared for the test.
We call this the "3 B's" Go to bed early, Eat a good breakfast and Bring a good book.

Secondly, I would like to offer an invitation. Most of you know I live on a farm and keep horses. While it isn't practical to have an entire classroom visit my farm, this year I can offer an alternative. For the first time I am taking two of my horses to show at the MN Horse Expo. Drama Queen and Wrigley will be at the State Fair Grounds the last weekend in April; Friday April 27, Saturday April 28 and Sunday April 29. If you and your family are interested and looking for a fun way to spend a few hours, we would love to see you. We will be in the horse barn in stalls 572-574. There is lots to see and do including free horse, pony and wagon rides.

The last item of importance is Mathat camping is coming up very soon and we will need lots of parent support. We especially need: parents to come on the trip and tents if you have them for us to borrow. The dates for the camping trip are May 23, 24 and 25.

Thanks for wading through so much information. If you have any questions please let me know.
