Dear Families,

It’s hard to believe that the year is almost half over!  On Thursday we celebrate the culmination of our second unit of learning, Let it Shine.  I am looking forward to seeing all of the Light Projects this week, and I know you are looking forward to the Light Fair on Thursday, January 16, from 7:45-8:45.  Rooms 102 and 104 will have 56 light projects on display- some artistic, some scientific, and some that can’t be defined!  We hope you come and tour, ask questions and make comments. In the afternoon, we’ll celebrate the end of Let it Shine with some special crafts and games.  Next week we will start our new unit, Timelines and Skylines.

This Week

We will learn from each other as each student has a chance to share his or her Light Project with the class.  We’ll take notes on all of the presentations and then do some writing about the unit as a whole.  We will also read, write, and sing about Dr. Martin Luther King, whose work and sacrifice helped change the world.

Welcome Zoey Bros

Hooray!  Our new student teacher, Zoey Bros, joins us this week and will stay until mid-April.  Zoey has finished all of her coursework at Augsburg College and is excited to be entering this phase of her teacher preparation.  I will let Zoey tell you more about herself in the weeks ahead.

Fresh Fruits and Vegetables!

The first FFVP snack will be in our class on Monday!  From now until the end of the year, we will have a fresh fruit or vegetable in class for snack every day.  I am planning to form a math lesson around our snack time; we’ll be collecting data on our preferences, types of food, etc.  Thanks to Katy Rozin, Sheila Eldred, and all of the parents who contributed.

The Rules Check In…

…has done it’s job!  From now on, we’ll be checking in on the rules verbally, and save the “paper version” for when we need it again.  Thank you for your support.

No Spelling This Week

With a short week and such a busy Thursday, we are skipping the spelling list and test this week.

No School Friday 1-17 and Monday 1-20.

Friday is a record-keeping day and Monday is Dr. King’s birthday.  We hope you  chat with your child about Dr. King’s legacy.

Thanks!  Kristin
