Dear Families,

Wasn’t it crazy on Thursday last week when we had so many forms of precipitation in one day?  Rain, sleet, hail and snow.  I hear we are in for another week of the same.  I hope we don’t get real-life examples during our study of severe weather.

Tornado Drill

We had our all school tornado drill last Thursday.  We learned where to go and w how to duck and cover.  We’ll study about tornados next week.  Make sure to make a severe weather plan for your family.

Severe Weather

Thunderstorms, tornados, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tsunami, and volcanoes are fascinating to everybody.  This week we will study weather that gets dangerous.  In math, we will continue collecting data, graphing our findings, and seeing what the data means.

The Project

We are sending the Eyes to the Sky project information home this week in the BEE books.  It was attached to the email version too.  It is due at the end of May, but important to work on it a little at a time.  Kids are already thinking about what they would like to study at home and share with their friends at school.

The Great Pencil Challenge

We have embarked on a mission to take better care of our pencils.  Last Monday, I sharpened 50 brand-new “ticonderogas.” On Thursday afternoon, we still had 48 functional pencils.  I am really proud of everyone’s efforts.  I know that when we put our minds to it, we can change our habits.  We are working hard to take good care of our space and our stuff.

Beach Day

Next Friday, we’ll celebrate a week of hard work and kind, peaceful behavior with a BEACH DAY!  This long, long winter has taken a toll on our spirits, I think, and we need something to look forward to.  We’ll have sand art, popsicles, volleyball and tunes.  Dig out some shorts, sandals and a beach towel for school that day.
