Dear Families,

Our big day is almost here!  This week we will write our fairy tales and get our projects ready for you all to view at our Author’s Tea, on Friday, October 24, from 7:45-8:45.  Each child will read for the audience- with support if needed- and you will love the sweet stories!

Next Week

Katie will be in charge Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, with the help of our dear friend Nettie Magnuson.  I will be at the National Summit for Courageous Conversations about Race.  Katie and Nettie will lead the class through some reflection about our unit of study Once Upon a Time.

Field Trip

Our field trip to the Steppingstone Theater is all set for Wednesday, October 22.  I have lots of permission slips already, and will send you a new one Monday if I don’t have yours.  We will be seeing the play Rainbow Crow which is a Lenape Native American folktale about sacrifice, inner beauty and loyalty.

A theatre field trip is a good first trip- you get on the bus, go in, watch the play, get back on the bus- nothing for kids or parents to get nervous about.  Our next will be a trip to the Arboretum in December, and we’ll need lots of chaperones, so get ready!

Lantern Walk

Saturday, November 15, from 5-6 we’ll gather at the “bowl” at Lyndale Farmstead Park, (corner of Dupont and 40th).  We’ll sing a couple songs, march with our lanterns around the bowl, and share some delicious treats.  It’s a gorgeous way to say goodbye to our long days, and welcome the coming winter.

Sewing Help

Does anyone know how to sew?  I have the supplies for making new chair pockets but can’t seem to get around to it.  If you have a sewing machine and some time to have me teach you how to make a chair pocket, I would love to show you and have your help.

Thanks!  Kristin and Katie

Homework Ideas

*Write your spelling words “rainbow style.”

*Read your book club chapters for the week.  If you finish your book, bring it back to school.

*Read for pleasure or practice.  Don’t forget a “just right” book from school.

*Take a walk and notice the signs of fall.  Make a list of changes you notice.

*Do your own thing.

* Practice telling time.  Put a digital clock and an analog clock together.  What do you notice?

*Act out a favorite fairy tale.

*Rake some leaves into a pile and jump in!

*Invite your family to our author’s tea!
