Moon Poetry - Editors Needed
The moon cycle is complete, and the journals contain wonderful seeds for poetry. Observations, both scientific and creative are being reworked and paired with night sky artwork. If you are available some time during the next week, I would put you to work helping students with editing. So, if you find yourself with some time on your hands, email me with the day and I will give you the times for that day.

Art Adventures
We are preparing for our first visit to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Third and fourth graders participate in a program called Art Adventures. Each year 8 pieces of art from the MIA’s collections are chosen and studied in the classroom. This year’s theme is Cultural Reflections in Art and Annik Miller (Alex Wiese’s mom) is working with us on this project. We will visit the MIA in December.

Spike Update
Spike seems to have settled into his new home, and has already grown half an inch! He has quite an appetite for crickets, so donations are being accepted for the “Spike Cricket Fund”. One dozen crickets cost about $1.55. However, if you happen to be in a pet store where they sell the little critters, do not hesitate to pick up a dozen! We are hoping to get him interested in veggies. More information on that later!

Are you a Cat or a Dog?
Scholastic Books is sponsoring the reading program Paws for Reading and Room 209 has signed on. Scholastic is donating books to children in need for every 20 minutes of reading recorded on their website. At this time they have donated a total of 1 million books and in just a few days, 209 has added 67 books to that total!

We have been working on mental math strategies this fall, and last week we started practicing on the Greg Tang KAKOOMA math website. It is available to famlies for a onetime fee of $5.95. If you are interested, please read the attached letter.
