October 21, 2012 Weekly Update

Dear Families,

I hope the MEA break provided you with a chance to enjoy the beautiful autumn weather.  As I prepare for another week, there are a couple of things I wanted to share.

First, please know that we did not complete a regular reflection card last week.  Instead, students wrote answers to a few reflection questions at the end of each day.  I’ll send those along home for you to read.  Also, I’ll send along home a copy of the Handwriting Without Tears alphabet and number chart.  Your child should keep this handy reference at home where he/she can use it while writing or working math problems.

Starting this week Monday (October 22), students will be working with Sue B. in Science for their special class.  Not to fear, we’ll continue observing and describing organisms in Room 108 as we fill our aquariums with guppies and pond snails!

We’ll now plan to visit the Media center on Thursday afternoons to renew or exchange our library books.  And, at some point this week, I’ll review with students a classroom book check-out procedure.  Students will be able to check-out one book from the classroom library at a time.  I encourage children to take home books at their just right reading level.

Finally, as we look forward to the final week of October, I wanted to let you know that there will be an all school “Spirit Day” on Wednesday, October 31st.  The day will begin with an all school morning meeting from 7:30-8:00.  The class will then work on a few fall themed activities to help us celebrate the season.  Students may dress to show their school spirit on that day.

     Have a great week!

Linda
