Room 214 Update 1/ 11/13
Friday, January 11, 2013 9:20 AM

Happy New Year Families,

Although it was somewhat of a challenge coming back right after New Years Day last week, we really got a lot accomplished. This week we are finishing up the illustrations and captions of significant events in the lives of the Presidents from John F. Kennedy to Barack Obama.

In Math the 3rd graders learning lots about multiplication facts and story problems. The 4th graders have finished up work with 2 and 3 digit multiplication and division. They will do a short unit on Geometry and at the end of January both the 3rd and 4th graders will be working on a Fractions/Decimals unit called The Rational Number Project.

Also later this month, we will begin an 8 week project observing and recording the growth of Amaryllis plants from bulb to bloom. It is wonderful watching these plants develop especially in the dead of winter!

Next week we will visit the Elders at Walker Senior Center on Wednesday Jan. 16th. We will do a snowman craft project.  If you are able to come help we need 2 more adults. Please email me if you are available.

Our Mid-Year Portfolio Sharing will be on Thursday January 31st from 7:30-8:30 am. You will have an opportunity to see many samples of items that show your child’s learning from the first half of the school year. You will also have a chance to sign up for mid-year goal setting conferences.

One last calendar item: Swimming at the YMCA Feb. 5th-8th.

 Thanks for your support! Mark
