MCA Test Information:

Students will have two sessions of 90 minutes to work on each test (2 days for reading and 2 days for math). If they need more time than that, they can continue after the allotted time. After 45 minutes students will be given a snack/stretch break and then spend the remaining time on the test. If your child would like a snack to have during their break please send them with one, there will not be anything provided, that I am aware of. Once complete with the specified section for the day, students will be given some free reading time.

The classroom website is being updated with all this information as well and can be a great place to check out!

Amaryllis Sharing:

We will be hosting, along with Penny's room and Patty's room an Amaryllis Flower Show on Wednesday, March 25 from 7:30-8:30am. Plan to see the weekly amaryllis drawings, the watering and measurement log, the scientific notes and the beautiful art work created by your child. The amaryllis plants will go home with you that morning along with after care directions so they can continue to bloom year after year.

Reflection Cards:

Please take some time to review your student's thoughts about their classroom involvement. These should be signed and returned the following Monday. This has continued to be a great way to communicate.

Camping:

Mark and I are starting to get all the information together as we plan this year's camping trip. Attached is a district form that must be filled out in order for your child to attend. The front of the form is required and the back is only necessary if your child has any medical needs. This is coming out now so that you have time to set up any necessary appointments. The dates for the camping trip are, May 20th- 22nd.  There will be more information to come in the next few weeks. Click here for the required overnight health form.

Plant Sale:

This year's plant sale is in full swing! The students did a great job singing the plant sale song during the plant sale kick off! Envelopes are being sent home today to get started on selling; more specific directions are in the envelope. Our goal is to raise $4,500 as a class.

In the Classroom This Week:

Math: This week students have had a chance to explore equivalent fractions and how to compare them to one another.

The Great Amaryllis Race (Science): Along with student’s daily jobs, they have been working on a vocabulary project. Students have done a great job with their vocabulary words. Students have been creating different pieces of art as they learn the reproductive parts of their plant.

Literacy: Students have continued working on learning about Georgia O’Keefe through reading groups, discussion and taking notes. Next week students will get started on their own artist studies as we continue exploring O’Keefe’s work.

Social Studies: Students are working hard on discovering what their next mystery state is going to be as they are given clues and time to research.

Science: Students continued their science rotation this week and, next Tuesday 3/24 they will start their next rotation which will be Gym…remember those gym shoes!

Homework:

Read- Students should be reading every night for 30 minutes.

Wednesday- Students should have brought home a white math packet on Wednesday, this should be returned next Wednesday, March 25th.

Spelling- Students should have received their list that they will be tested on next Thursday. Everyone has a list of parts of a flower that we have studied during our Amaryllis Project for this coming week’s spelling list.

Extra math practice, if wanted.

Classroom Needs:

-       Tissues

-       Pencils

-       Black Dry Erase Markers (needing enough for the whole class, so any little bit helps!)
