Room 216 News and Notes ~ 9/30/16

Dear Parents,
I hope you are all looking forward to a lovely weekend. It looks beautiful outside! A new moon begins this evening. We will be studying the moon for one full cycle. This weekend's homework is to try to see the moon on Sunday. Will it show up as a tiny sliver? Beware that the moon sets by 7:56 pm on Sunday.

We are a little more than half way through Charlotte's Web. Wilbur and Charlotte are off to the fair. My read-aloud book this week is Flora & Ulysses.

The cursive books arrived this week and we have practiced the first three letters which are c, a and d. The cost for the cursive book is $8. (I will also be collecting $6 for the social studies weekly newspaper).Thank you!

This week we began planning our personal narrative stories. Students generated a list of memories to choose from and met with a writing partner to help them decide which one would make the most interesting and detailed story to write. Yesterday they wrote for twenty minutes straight, writing down every detail they could think of including sounds, smells and dialogue.

We have completed our first math unit  which was about data and graphing. Today we took the end of unit test. Students will have an opportunity to see their scores and correct their tests on Monday.

Spelling test number three was taken today. Every Friday all filed papers including spelling work and the test are taken home for you to see.

Have a great weekend!
Rebecca and Hannah
