News & Notes for room 8:

-This week...We have started learning about slavery from the perspective of West Africans facing difficult dilemmas. We also started reading "In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson." This story is about a young girl who sails from China to America and her new life in Brooklyn, NY. This week we made predictions, compared and contrasted, took a quiz on chapters 1-2 and created our own map of Barton School and surrounding area (our main character Shirley gets lost in NY - to help her out she could have used a drawn map!).

Reminders:

***Camping forms are due by this Monday, March 14th***
-Chaperone meeting for camping is Tuesday, March 22nd at 5:30 in the media center

-Today we have our first planting class with Marianne!

-Due a week from tomorrow is our March book report. Info about it here:

***10 hour project is to be completed at home. The students will get an outline guide next week to help them. Attached in the information. Rough drafts are due Friday, April 15th. The kids are encouraged to turn in a copy at least 1 week before April 15th to receive feedback from me. Presentations will begin at the beginning of May!

Next week from March 14th-18th each classroom will be collecting K-8 grade level book donations. Please have your kids bring any donations to our homeroom.

**Wish list for our homeroom :)....we are running low on tissues and disinfecting wipes. Donations would be appreciated. The flu is going around our school and would love to have extra wipes to keep desks and door knobs clean. Remember to wash hands and rest during this time. If your child is sick and/or has a fever, please keep them home.

-Have a great weekend, and thank you for the support!
