Dear Families,
We are almost done with conferences! 24 done, only 5 to go. Thanks to everyone for coming out. I want to thank Katherine for all of her support in helping us get ready for these important conversations.  She’s doing a great job!

Last week we had a story about a tailor, and this week we have a story about a shoemaker. The Brave Little Tailor was all about assertion; standing up for ourselves. The Shoemaker and the Elves is all about empathy. The elves feel sorry for the poor couple and do little acts of kindness that mean a lot to the shoemaker and his wife.

This week we’ll be practicing ways to think about how others feel. Some people think that kids either have empathy or they don’t. The fact is, empathy is a quality that can be taught, nurtured and practiced. Thinking of how another person feels is the beginning of peaceful problem-solving at home and at school.

Shoeboxes
Do you have your eye on a cool new pair of shoes? Now’s the time to make the purchase. All we need is the box. We’d like to make math tool boxes to keep at home and store all of the cool math games we’re sending home.

Field Trips
We’re still working on getting a couple busses firmed up, and then we’ll have an “all year long” field trip permission slip ready to go. Watch for it!
