This Week
We have another fairy tale celebrating sewing. We will be reading The Elves and the Shoemaker. As we watch the elves help the shoemaker we will be discussing empathy and what that means for each of us. We will continue to explore money. We are looking for combinations to make 10. We get to make our nine and ten pages in fairy tale number book.
Book Order
I am sending home a few book orders for Sept. and Oct. Please return the forms by Friday, October 8th, two weeks from today. I plan to order books every two months (September, November, January, March, May.) If you plan to order, send back your order form(s) with a check made out to Scholastic.
Thank you for coming to conferences. We are just about done. I enjoy hearing what each parent hopes for the school year. It’s inspirational!

I am sending a paper copy home of the class directory. If there is still an error, please let me know and I’ll forward on the correction.

Water Service Project
This year we will be learning about water around the world. We will soon be podcasting about ways we can conserve water and keep it clean. As a part of our service project we will be partnering with an organization called Give Us Wings. For more information about the organization go to Give Us Wings is an organization started by Anjali’s grandmother, Mary. She has visited our classroom in the past and makes the journey for water to Lake Victoria in Kenya come alive for each child. The last time she visited we were carrying water in buckets on our heads. If you are looking to kick off our water project, Give Us Wings has a Walk for Water on October 9th. The website can offer more information. I’ll keep you posted when we get our podcast up and running.
