Course Description:   United States History from 1870

Students will analyze and demonstrate knowledge of the political, geographical, cultural, social and economic forces shaping the emergence of the modern United States.

  1. Students will be prepared for each class period (planner, notebook, pencil/pen).
  2. Student will participate in each class period.
  3. Student will complete all work on time; late work will receive lower marks.
  4. Student will write every assignment in their planner.
  5. Student is responsible for getting assignments when absent.

Main Assignments 

  • Journal- Student will compile a notebook of journal entries, notes, and vocabulary.
  • American Odyssey – Read, discuss, and review selected readings.
  • Selected additional readings:
    • Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee
    • A People’s History of the United States
    • A Young People’s History of the United State
    • Us and Them
    • “Young Immigrant Voices”
  • Academic Choice Project- Create/present project demonstrating knowledge of America from 1877.
