Parents,
We have had quite a bit of strep at Barton over the past few weeks, so please be alert to the following symptoms: fever, sore throat and swollen glands.  Headache and stomach upset or vomiting also sometimes occur.  If anyone in your family has been experiencing these symptoms, it would be wise to call your clinic for a throat culture.  If your child is diagnosed with strep, he/she needs to stay home for at least 24 hours after starting the antibiotic.  In addition, if there is a fever, he/she needs to stay home for at least 24 hours after the fever is gone.  Be sure to let us know if your child has strep by calling the attendance line at 612-668-3588.  You can speak with Jennie Smith, the health assistant, by calling the main office at 612-668-3580 and asking for the health office.  Also, please review the following hygiene measures with your children:
1. Wash hands after using the bathroom, before eating, and after sneezing/coughing/blowing the nose.  Remember, washing hands is the single best way to prevent the spread of germs.
2. Cover coughs and sneezes with tissues or by coughing/sneezing into sleeves.
3. Throw away used tissues.
4. Keep hands away from the face.
5. Do not share food, drinks, or eating utensils.

Thank you!
