                                                                                    Sunday, April 12, 2015

Dear Classroom120 Families,

Our classroom has been having fun examining and planting seeds as our organisms unit kicks off. Each child chose to plant either a bean, pea, pumpkin or sunflower seed. They recorded the date they planted and also questions they had about the seed and when it might sprout. Classroom terrariums are up coming!

We have also been working on map skills. We’ve read Mapping, Mapping Penny’s World and Me on the Map as well as a few other short books that focus on map keys, the compass rose and scale.  Each child has begun their own “Me on the Map” book by mapping themselves in their bedroom.

After school community education and after school Barton learning classes start this week

Plant Sale Orders are due tomorrow, Monday the 13th. Online orders continue through April 20th; plant pick up is on May 8th and 9th.

Barton Student Author Night will be held on Thursday, April 16 at 6:00.  If your child would like to share a piece that I may have collected (auto biography), please have them ask me for it.

Friday, April 17th is the all school field trip to the Ordway Theater to see the Diavolo Dance Company. We leave Barton at 9:30 and return at 11:45. Lunch will be on the late side (when we return to school) so it might be a great day for a bigger breakfast. If your child has not yet turned in their permission slip please send it in ASAP.

We’re still in Music for our specialist. The kids are learning to play guitar, there are enough for a whole class set. Lisa has them working in small groups. We will start Art with Meri for our specialist on Friday the 17th.

The end of the year picnic at Hyland Park’s Chutes and Ladders is tentatively scheduled for Friday, May 22nd. Classrooms 108, 116, 118 and 120 will be putting together a potluck including grilling hot dogs at the park. It’s wonderful to have help out there so if you can attend, we welcome you! I will let you know when the date is confirmed.

Barton’s All School Lake Day will on Tuesday, June 2nd.  The whole school will be participating in a program and the Lake Harriet Band shell, activities and picnic to follow.

                                                                                    Happy Spring!
