Moon Journals
It was a great week for daytime moon observations. As the Moon Journals come home, the expectations for work include written and sketched recordings of moon and/or night
sky observations. Other work options include creative writings and artwork related to this topic. Often the work will be guided by a prompt. At school, the work will include lessons from the Foss science kit Sun, Moon, and Stars, art activities, creative writing, and a study of moon legends from around the world.

Classroom Pet
Small groups were engaged in researching the 8 class pets under consideration. In the next step, each group will create a poster about their animal, make a pro and con T-chart, and present their findings to the class. Then of course, we will need to decide!

Reading Workshop
As I finish up all of the individual reading assessments, we will begin a whole class novel study. I will model comprehension strategies starting with a strategy that has ended up being a frequent topic during the assessments and at goal setting conferences: Checking for Understanding (slow down, stop and think, expect the words to make sense). Students will then focus on this strategy during the independent portion of Reading Workshop.

Math
This week we will finish up our first unit on place value and big numbers. Next week our focus will turn to multiplication.

Stamp Club
Amalie, Ladan, Nadera, and Sabrii planned and taught the lesson on ordering stamps from the Mystic Stamp catalog, then everyone spent 50¢ of their membership dues.
