Update on Start-Time Survey

Dear Barton Community,

I wanted to provide an update to the start-time survey that the district office conducted earlier this year. Early in January, our district office conducted a survey to investigate the community's interest in changing school start times and to examine potential impacts that such a change may have on schools, families, and the learning of middle school and high school students.

The district office has finished its review and concluded the following: while they overwhelmingly prefer start times between 8 and 8:30 a.m. and dismissal times between 2:30 and 3 p.m., families of elementary school children need time to prepare for a drastic change in the transportation system.  The district has therefore opted to delay any changes in the transportation model for elementary schools for at least one more calendar year.

However, they are still considering making changes for middle and/or high schools in order to lengthen the school day and offer students more academic options. I will communicate more about the district office's plans once they become available. For more information on the results of the survey, please click here…

In short, Barton’s start and end time will remain unchanged in 2015-16.

Sincerely,

Paul Scanlon
