Room 216 Classroom News

The Great Amaryllis Race:
This week marks the start of an eight-week project that the 3/4 classroom will be taking part in.  Throughout this project students are going to have a great opportunity to explore the life cycle science unit.  Students planted their amaryllis bulb Friday and they will daily measure it, make sketches and observations, read articles and participate in an artist study project!  Students spent much time this week preparing for the project to start and then getting it started.

In the Classroom:
Math: We have continued to study geometry in class, looking at quadrilaterals and different types of triangles this week.

Reading: Students have been working on reading their own books and doing activities with their readings.    Students have also had the opportunity to read about their Amaryllis bulb.

Writing: Students have been doing some free writing and also journaling about their Amaryllis project.

Read – Students should be reading every night for 30 minutes.

Wednesday – Students received a Sketching Journal this week as their homework.  During the Great Amaryllis Race project it is expect that students do their best sketches, this assignment was sent to get them practicing and spending time labeling their sketches.

Spelling – Students should have received their list that they will be tested on next Thursday.  I encourage them to study and practice at home.

Your student should have a letter regarding conferences and scheduling a time, please let me know at your earliest convenience when a good time would be.

Reminder that swimming fieldtrip forms were sent home earlier this week, please make sure to send those back so your student may join the class on the trip.

Felicity’s Nature Garden:
The school is planning on planting a garden and creating a space in honor of Felicity right near door 5.  Our class was invited to help be apart of the planning for this project.  On Tuesday, the adults leading the project are planning on coming in to talk with the class about it!
