Room 114 Families,

Tomorrow is our farm field trip!  We are all excited, find some “farm trip tips” in today’s folder.  After we get back students are usually pretty tired, not to mention the teacher!  We will have a snack and watch “Charlotte’s Web” on DVD; it features many of the animals we will see at the farm.
There are all sorts of things in today’s folder. Most importantly is the transportation form for next school year.  Please send back the form as soon as possible!  There is also a ballot for parents wishing to join the Barton Leadership Council. Each Barton family can have two adults vote; please return these either via the school office or me.   Find student work from Science with Sue B. and your child’s plant book from growing seeds in our classroom.
I have finished all the reading assessment with the kindergarteners and I am half way done with the math assessment with the children.  I seem to “steal” time throughout the day to work with the children one on one and I do really enjoy it. We will begin to work on some writing and drawing projects for next year’s teacher.  Usually I ask the children to draw a self-portrait and have them write about two or three things that their new teacher should know about them.  I will attach a photo of the children to their self- portrait.  You will receive a copy of both of these items as part of your child’s portfolio.
We have been learning about the farm animals we will see on our trip.  We have listed facts and drawn each animal using observational drawing techniques.  Yesterday, the children got a chance to see three brand new baby chicks and chicks still in the eggs starting to hatch.  Our ELL teacher, Karin Karis, had an incubator in her classroom and took all the kindergarteners in small groups to see the eggs and chicks.  It was good practice for our trip on Thursday where the children will get to hold chicks.
Last Friday we met with our 7th/8th grade Buddies and the kindergartners drew pictures of their Big Buddies and the 7th/8th graders drew pictures of the kindergartners. Your child’s portrait is in the folder today.
Remember our Memory Book/ Portfolio event is Thursday, May 31st open house style.  Drop in any time between 7:30 – 9:00am, coffee, juice and bagels all provided and be amazed at all your child has to show you!  The children will be making invitations that will go home next week.
We start our last specialist rotation on Monday, May 21st.  We have media in the morning and Gym in the afternoon.  Please make sure your child has gym shoes, sport sandals work but no flip-flops or “fancy” sandals.  Thank you!
